Full Description

An 8-week series in a small group setting

Deepen your skills mediating conflicts and learn applications to pre-post mediation, conflict coaching, mediator self-care and interpersonal mediation.

This Level 2 series deepens and integrates learning from the Level 1 mediation class and also focuses on learning and practicing a process of transforming “enemy images” with individuals and applying it to resolving conflict. An enemy image occurs any time one loses a sense of connection and compassion with another. The Enemy Image Process has various applications, such as:

  • Pre and post mediation meetings
  • Conflict coaching
  • Mediator self-care

This class is for people who have already taken an introductory NVC mediation training with John Kinyon, Ike Lasater, Jim Manske, or Jori Manske. With a more experienced group the practice and learning starts at an advanced level!

The emphasis of this course is on interpersonal mediation and how it may be used to help others in conflict, both formally and informally.

Expect brief presentations and demonstrations, practice in small break out groups, coaching in the whole group, and group harvesting of the learning. Enjoy practicing with experienced participants and work with greater intensity and more challenging role plays. You will notice subtle distinctions and improved mediation skills as the learning and connection deepens. You will learn how to use the Enemy Image Process with yourself when mediating your own or others’ conflicts, or when facilitating coaching conversations. It is also used to care for yourself as you support people with their conflicts.

Prerequisites:   This is an Intermediate NVC course and the basics of NVC will not be covered. However, anyone who is already familiar with the basics of NVC is welcome to register for the course.

What People Are Saying About This Course

“John Kinyon is someone in whom I have a great deal of trust and confidence. John in my experience has a special gift for facilitating empathic understanding and communication between people. I highly endorse John's skills and abilities with Nonviolent Communication, and I strongly recommend him to anyone needing help resolving a conflict situation.” - Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D., founder of Nonviolent Communication

“At a time of escalated tensions and unexpressed concerns, John's experience and inspirational style with NVC helped to facilitate a reconnection between the principles of the business. After the breakdown in communication, his skills helped create a stronger foundation of trust and empathy, where each person could be heard. This enabled us to move ahead into a creative dynamic process of strategies and goal setting for the company.” - Selma Aslin and Tehra Braren, business owner and company director
