Being Present to Joy
Dear Friend, Is it really December already?
The year seems to have whooshed by me. I'm standing in front of my computer writing this letter and the events of the year are running through my mind. Many of them deeply sad and disturbing — others bring a smile to my face and joy to my heart… ahhh, the fullness of all of it.
Michael Brown, who wrote The Presence Process — a book that had a profound effect on me — once said, "Some people think that joy is feeling happy. I think joy is feeling EVERYTHING!"
At first, I merely pondered this statement because it was hard for me to let in. Later, maybe even much later, I felt a big resounding YES to his statement: joy is feeling everything. I had woken up to the truth that I wanted to be full-on alive, awake, and feeling my life. And, though I have moments of closing off my feelings, for the most part I feel them.
I am awake and grateful.
As we wind down 2017 and prepare to transition into 2018, my wish for myself and for you is that we be as present as possible to the grandeur and nuance we experience on a daily basis… that we trust in our ability to meet whatever or whoever crosses our paths… and that we each experience deep JOY in feeling all of it.
You'll find a variety of things in this month's edition of Growing Roots that may help you along the way, as our focus is on presence, empathy, and transitions.
We're also kicking off our annual December NVC Marketplace Sale. Feel free to stock up on your favorite NVC audios and videos at a big discount. I hope you enjoy it!
Sending warmth,
