Miki Kashtan, Aurélia Saint-Just & Alper Süzer

Miki Kashtan, Aurélia Saint-Just & Alper Süzer

Miki Kashtan

Miki Kashtan is a co-founder of Bay Area Nonviolent Communication (BayNVC) and of the Nonviolent Global Liberation community (NGL). Miki focuses strongly on how, in times of global crisis, we can mobilize together to increase the chances of a livable future using collaborative tools based on the principles of Nonviolent Communication. Her latest book, The Highest Common Denominator: Using Convergent Facilitation to Reach Breakthrough Collaborative Decisions (2021) delves deeply into how collaborative decisions can be made within groups without having to wait for all of us to be transformed.

Miki blogs at The Fearless Heart and her articles have appeared in the New York Times ("Want Teamwork? Encourage Free Speech"), Tikkun, Waging Nonviolence, Shareable, Peace and Conflict, and elsewhere. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from UC Berkeley.

Aurélia Saint-Just

Aurélia Saint-Just discovered NVC in 2015. Within the Nonviolent Global Liberation community, she is holding with Miki the group exploring Power & Privilege (P&P) through the lens of liberation using the Vision Mobilization framework. Her own liberation edge is to speak and act from a place of togetherness and to come back to a place of choice as she supports people to do this individually and collectively. She is part of a self-organized P&P NVC group in France and co-facilitates trainings around Systemic Dynamics and anti-oppression offered to groups engaged in activism and social change at the Ulex project in Catalonia, Spain.

Alper Süzer

Alper was born into a working-class family in Istanbul, Turkey during a time of fear and oppression following the 1980 coup d'état. He is now a nearly full-time caregiver to his four children. Alper's journey with NVC began as he searched for alternative pathways for his children's education. Since 2017, he has been offering NVC workshops in Turkey and is on his way to becoming a CNVC Certified Trainer.

Alper has been a member of the NGL Community since 2018. Within the community, he designs and maintains practical pathways for engaging with financial resources, making it possible to incrementally materialize the vision of resources flowing to needs as a lived reality.
